MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Under direct supervision, with independent initiative and judgment, design and develop database tables, triggers, stored procedures and indexes.
• Perform database performance tuning and optimization, and implement integrity and security for all IT databases.
• Design and implement backup and recovery procedures and manage IT development, test and production environment.
• Install, upgrade, configure, monitor database growth and maintain SQL servers in a Windows environment.
• Design reports using Cognos, Crystal Reports and Microsoft Reporting Service.
• Maintain SQL server daily maintenance database tasks for optimal performance and reliability.
• Create, document, and oversee the implementation of best practices procedures and agency wide data standards.
• Work as part of a team and respond to off-hour calls when needed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and one year of satisfactory full-time computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, systems programming or data communications; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in "1" above; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in "2" above on the basis that 60 semester credits form an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition, 24 semester credits form an accredited college or graduate school in computer science or a related field, or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post high school), may be substituted for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above.
This position is exempt from NYC residency requirements.
PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
1. Driver license valid in New York State.
2. Knowledge of Crystal Reports, Microsoft Reporting Service and Cognos.
3. Strong communication, organizational and project management skills.
4. Well-developed skills in associated Database programming languages with an emphasis on MS SQL Server (T-SQL).
5. Comprehension of query plan, good query tuning skills, and diverse experience improving query performance.
6. Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
7. Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
8. Certifications such as MCTS, MCITP a plus.
